Our Doctors

Dr. Layman, a Toledo native, graduated from the University of Toledo and The Ohio State University College of Optometry.  He is the recipient of the 2006 American Optometric Association “Optometrist of the Year Award.”  The Ohio Optometric Association honored him with its Outstanding Senior Student Award in 1982, its Young Optometrist of the Year Award in 1987, and it’s Optometrist of the Year Award in 2005.  He also received the TLC Dennis Kennedy, O.D. Excellence in Eye Care Award for 2005 and 2006.  He is a past president of the Toledo Area Optometric Society, the Ohio Optometric Association, the Toledo Jaycees, and the Kiwanis Club of West Toledo.  He is a vision consultant for the University of Toledo Athletic Department.  Dr. Layman is married and has four children.  He enjoys family travel, running, snow skiing, and motorsports.

Dr. Hardie is originally from Ironwood, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Michigan State University. He graduated with his Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Ohio State University in 2010. Dr. Hardie was the recipient of the Ohio State University College of Optometry’s Graduate of the Year award and the Vision Service Plan Nexus award for ophthalmic dispensing. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Ohio Optometric Association, and the Michigan Optometric Association. His interests include sports, travel, and community involvement.

Our Staff

Mica		Mica has over 12 years of optical experience and is CPOA certified.  She joined the practice in 2005.  Mica’s interest at work includes medical records, testing, eyewear selection and dispensing.  Her ability to envision what a patient needs is an asset when choosing eyewear.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and five children.  Together with her family they enjoy football and basketball.  In Mica’s very limited free time she appreciates a good book or being challenged by her computer.
Lynn		Lynn has over 23 years of optical experience and is CPOA certified.  She has been with our team since 2001.  Her special interests in eye care are vision therapy and eye wear fabrication.  Lynn is also a firefighter, EMT, and owns a business dealing with fire truck rentals for parties.  Lynn has two children in high school that are interested in volleyball, golf and baseball.  Lynn’s sincere love for all animals big or small is one of the best of her many qualities.
Judy		Judy is an ABO certified optician.  She has over 27 years of optical experience and started with our practice in 1990.  Judy specializes in frame styling, buying, and dispensing.  Her discriminating taste in eyewear is showcased by her displays in the eyewear gallery.  Her numerous years of experience have given her unsurpassed knowledge of frames and lenses.  Judy is married with two sons and one daughter in law and a grand dog Katy.  Judy spends most of her free time traveling or boating.  Judy has a radiant smile, a catchy laugh and a quest to delight all patients.
Ali		Ali has over 13 years of optical experience and is CPOA certified.  She has been a part of our eye care team since 2000.  Her many years of clinical experience play a special role in her contact lens knowledge.  Ali loves to cook, read personal development books, and maintain high energy through  physical fitness.  Ali has two handsome boys with wonderful imaginations.  Her older son enjoys baseball and basketball, while her younger son enjoys any outdoor activity.
Julie		Julie joined our team as a pretester in 2007 and is now an apprentice optician.  Her day may include greeting patients, pretesting, assisting with eyewear design and custom lens selection.  Julie is committed to providing the most comfortable and educational experience possible at Pinnacle Eye Group.  She and her husband Larry live in Temperance, Michigan.  Julie is a proud mother of two teenage children, Chad and Emily.  She also enjoys being with her family and friends, and loves all sports and gardening.
Sharon		After 27 years in banking, Sharon chose a new career as an Insurance Billing Specialist.  She joined our practice in 1995.  Her excellent managerial background allowed her to capably assume bookkeeping, payroll, human resources and insurance billing responsibilities.  Her valuable administrative skills have complimented Sandy’s to co anchor all financial operations for the practice.  She enjoys yard work and reading (mostly mysteries).  Sharon and her husband Ed have 1 married son (no grandchildren).  However they treat their son’s dog, Casey like a grandchild.  They have a cabin in Atlanta, Michigan that they enjoy visiting.
Sandy		Sandy joined our practice in 1996 as a front desk receptionist.  She is now involved in all aspects of the practice administration.  Sandy is married with 2 children and a dog named Tessa.  Her son Bill is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and married to Stacy, her daughter Kelly is a graduate of the University of Toledo.  Sandy enjoys going to Detroit Tiger games with husband Dan.
Kate		Kate is our Patient Care Coordinator and has been with our team of professionals since 2005.  A typical day for her consists of greeting our patients and helping with their “paperwork”, scheduling appointments, gathering insurance information, and verifying eligibility.  She also diligently manages our recalls, ensuring that you receive those friendly reminders that it’s time to come see us!  When the day’s done, Kate enjoys relaxing with her husband and son, as well as riding her horse, gardening, and camping.
Deb		Debbie joined our practice in 2007.  You will find her scheduling appointments, greeting patients and serving as a patient insurance advocate.  She was in the dental field for 18 years before moving to optometry.  Debbie is the proud mom of two great kids, Daniel and Ashley.  She is also “mom” to 1 dog, 4 cats and two Arabian horses.  Her best friend is her husband Ray and she is happiest when she is with the ones she loves.
Tess		Tess has over 14 years of optical experience and is a Licensed Ohio Dispensing Optician.  She started in the practice in 2009.  Her special areas of interest are eyewear selection and dispensing.  Tess’s expertise at informing, assisting, and guiding the patient into the best eyewear is one of her many strengths.  Tess is a devoted wife and mother of two adorable daughters.  Together with her family she enjoys fossil hunting and pez collecting.
Kim		Kim joined our team in 2009 and is fascinated with all things medically technical. This makes her the perfect pretesting technician.  Kim runs the pre-exam instruments gathering patient medical information and clinical data for the doctors to review and interpret.  Having a degree in Scientific and Technical Communication, she helps patients understand the importance of every step of the eye care process.  Kim loves spending time with her husband, Scott and their 3 active boys Ross, Craig and Wyatt.
